Synopsis: Alternating periods of fasting with periods of healthful eating has been shown to provide serious physical benefits.

Synopsis: much the same as the proteinpower link. this article has a few more links to studies than the other one.

Both of these articles have many many comments which include both stories of personal experience and a few links to more science studies, though some of those studies seem to be on pay-to-view sites.
